My Eventful Week in Summary

monday - friday: work
so much information to absorb, so many things to do, yet so little time given to accomplish them. work have been eventful but... sickening. being involved in the recruits graduation parade last saturday and the units anniversary gathering yesterday meant that i qualify for my off-in-lieus on the subsequent mondays. but due to work commitments i am unable to take them yet! it is really frustrating >.< initially ive been trying to clear my remaining half-day off, and now i have two more. i hope i will be able to schedule them soon. ive been longing to enjoy a long weekend.

saturday: unit anniversary gathering
i just love going for cohesion. instead of working, you get to play. and that might earn you an off-in-lieu as well. a pity i couldnt take it on the coming monday. an additional day to relax and do nothing after my sunday 10km run would be so wonderful, but it was not meant to be.

the cohesion involved all perm-staff in the unit, and it took place at palawan beach, sentosa yesterday.

the monorail terminal at vivo city. full of yang and devoid of yin.

there was an attempt to create a carnival-like atmosphere, so there were some carnival stations in place. besides that, there are also competitions like soccer, volleyball and tele-match. my friends took part in the soccer competition.

the team fought well to tie the score at 2-2 during regulation time, but we lost the golden goal. still, not a bad result considering some of the players on our team barely plays the game at all. did i mention that we had a former youth international goalkeeper playing outfield? xD but he was technically very good though. i think he even scored a goal. there was no replay, so i cannot confirm.

i think there were some more activities, but i left early. went home to play basketball and got my rest in preparation for sundays run.

sunday: new balance real run

new balance real run @ changi exhibition centre

ahh... my first time joining an open 'race' like this one. it wasnt really a race for me, given my lousy physical fitness. i signed up for this event in june. even though i jogged on quite a regular basis, i never once clocked clocked up to 10km - the distance that i signed up for.

so you can see i wasnt really prepared. to make matters worse, my pacing partner was late for the event and missed the race -.-"'

me and sis in the comfortable air-conditioned holding area

2027. my race number. also the number of my dads first bike in singapore

no prize for guessing correctly which pair of shoes belongs to me.

in order to avoid the enormous crowd, i crossed the starting line only nine and a half minutes after the flag-off. there were plenty of people all around even then. i felt surprisingly good at the start, being able to run at a comfortable pace and clocking less than 6 minutes for every kilometer. that was even faster than my usual timing back at home.

it was after the coastal stretch at about 7-8km where my fitness let me down. crawling my way to the finish, i ended with a time of around 1h 05min. it bettered my targeted timing of 1h 10min, but i was a little disappointed. with slightly better fitness, i could have finished under an hour.

after the race, it was breakfast with my sis and my (invisible) pacer friend at tampines ikea.

queueing to get out of the exhibition centre. the queue is much more organized than the causeway queue.

my ikea breakfast... oops... gone. fancy some meatballs?

race pack consists of a shirt, finisher medal, gift samples, vouchers and loads of brochure

thats all folks! another long and grueling week ahead! sigh.
