how often were you tempted to watch a movie when you come across its trailer or its synopsis? not very often for me. harry potter draws me in. i guess i can count mr poppers penguin as one more, with jim carrey the attracting factor. not much really, throughout the years.
but suddenly there are three movies that i would really like to watch. better get people to go catch them with me before they are gone!
the movies that i want to watch (ranked according to priority):
1) Johnny English Reborn
forget about the trailer. forget about the synopsis. im already in the moment i heard there was a sequel to the first johnny english movie, released in 2003. i watched it during my polytechnic days along with transporter 3, when my group was supposed do a project about a film.
the first movie received some negative reviews, and even rowan atkinson (mr bean, lah!) criticized the lack of preparation and maturity on his part (he reckons a 40-something year-old english was too young). i thoroughly enjoyed the movie however, and even influenced my group to select the movie for our project xP this time round, the man himself promised a movie that is better prepared, so the more i have to catch the movie then!
for those who only know mr atkinson for his role in mr bean... ... trust me, hes even funnier when he speaks; hes a genius when it comes to churning out amusing speeches.
2) the first grader
a very strong contender for first place in my opinion. i have just as much desire to watch this movie as i have with johnny english reborn. sadly, i dont think this movie will be a big hit, even with the good ratings dished out by the local newspaper (4 out of 5 stars). not your regular blockbuster movie, this one tells an inspirational story about an 84 year-old man and his determination to learn despite his age.
3) four lions
i just feel this one is going to be interesting. the review of this movie appeared on the same edition of 'life' as the first grader, and the rating was just as good. (i think it is also a 4). the movie is about a group of muslim men who fumble along as they aspire to become full-fletched terrorists. touted to be a movie threads a fine line between humour and horror, this comedy about terrorism can be too hard for some to take.
and that uncertainty makes me rank it as it is. no offence to the british, but this being a british film make me a little more uncertain. british humour can be a little hard to understand, you know. of course unless you are talking about rowan atkinson.
